More Money for Mission with Light Switch

Thanks to Ameren Missouri’s Business Social Services Incentive Program (BSS) and PCS Energy, Youth In Need is set to save approximately $28,000 each year by switching to LED lighting at six of its locations. Available to nonprofit organizations that provide social services to the community, Ameren’s BSS Program provides incentives for customers to receive installed efficient technologies that provide energy savings.

“At Ameren, we believe in working together with the communities we serve to make lasting change,” said Ryan Arnold, Ameren Missouri’s Vice President (Division Operations) and Celebration of Youth Cabinet member at Youth In Need. “It is a privilege as an Ameren employee and a volunteer with Youth In Need to know that our combined efforts will help young people in our communities thrive, as well as the organizations that serve them.”

PCS Energy, an Ameren-certified provider, replaced all the incandescent lighting in emergency exits, hallways, offices and restrooms with energy-efficient LED lighting that includes five-year bulbs. Ameren’s cash incentives to complete the work totaled more than $63,000.

Support Youth In Need on Give STL Day

Give STL Day is Thursday, May 6, and we’d love a little help from our friends! The single biggest day of charitable giving in St. Louis, Give STL Day brings St. Louis together as it collectively supports hundreds of the region’s nonprofits like Youth In Need.

Donations received on Give STL Day will support our Emergency Shelter, Transitional Living Program and Supported Apartments. And Youth In Need’s Board of Directors will TRIPLE the first $5,000 in donations! That means your $100 gift turns into $300 of life-changing impact for our youth! Through our shelter, group home and supported living apartments, teens and young adults who are experiencing homelessness have an opportunity to learn independent-living skills, work toward educational and employment goals, and become self-sufficient community members. These programs are integral in helping youth experiencing homelessness achieve lasting success, and we need your help to make it happen!

Support Youth In Need during this day-long giving event by visiting Youth In Need’s donation page on givestlday.org. And don’t forget: When you donate, your gift will go even further to support youth experiencing homelessness in our community thanks to the triple match from Youth In Need’s Board of Directors! Watch Give STL Day’s Facebook and Twitter accounts for status updates, giving challenges and special “power hours” throughout the day.

Community Partners Help with Staff Vaccinations

Community partners have been instrumental in helping Youth In Need staff get their COVID-19 vaccines. Thanks to our partners at Compass Health, St. Charles County Health Department, iFM Community Medicine, Urban League and Visiting Nurse Association for vaccinating Youth In Need’s staff. Because of these partners, our staff are protected and they can continue the work of supporting children, youth and families.

Gateway Giving Podcast Features Youth In Need

Youth In Need was featured last month in the Gateway Giving podcast, a show about philanthropy in and around the St. Louis region. David Foster, a certified financial planner, chartered advisor in philanthropy and founder of Gateway Wealth Management, interviewed Youth In Need’s Demetria Lightfoot from the perspective of a prospective donor and offered insight on how to make the greatest impact with your charitable donations.

Demetria has worked at Youth In Need for nearly four years but was recently promoted to the Director of Philanthropy, where she is working on building relationships with individual donors who are passionate about investing in the children, youth and families Youth In Need serves. Connect with Demetria at dlightfoot@youthinneed.org or 636-757-9338, and listen to her on the podcast.
